From July 2003 until March 2006, Mr. Williams was Managing Director and Head of Wachovia Corporation’s International Corporate Finance Group with responsibility for Wachovia’s investment banking and corporate finance activities in Europe, Asia, and Latin America. After the merger of Wachovia and First Union in 2001 and until July 2003, he was Executive Vice President and Head of the Global Corporate Banking Division. The Global Corporate Banking Division was comprised of over 300 banking professionals who managed corporate banking relationships within 12 specialized industry groups and four global regions.
At Wachovia, Mr. Williams was Chief Risk Officer for all corporate, institutional, and wholesale banking activities from 2000 until the merger with First Union in late 2001. In that role, he managed over 100 risk management professionals charged with oversight of credit, market, and operational risk in the corporate banking, international banking, capital markets, real estate finance, business banking, dealer finance, and regional commercial banking lines of business. From 1999 to 2000, Mr. Williams was Executive Vice President and Co-Head of Wachovia’s Capital Markets Division with direct management responsibility for the debt capital markets business.
Mr. Williams was Executive Vice President and Head of Wachovia’s US Corporate Banking Division from 1997 to 1999. He was elected a Senior Vice President and Group Executive in 1995 with responsibility for business in the Western and mid-Western states.
Mr. Williams serves on the boards of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, the YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta, and the High Museum of Art and is a member of the Buckhead Coalition. He is Chairman of the Community Depository Institutions Advisory Council (CDIAC) of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta and its representative to the CDIAC of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. Previously, Mr. Williams served on the boards of the ABA Securities Association, the Visiting Nurse Association of Metropolitan Atlanta, the Global Business Leaders Roundtable at the Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University, Young Life Northwest Atlanta, and Whitefield Academy and was an advisor to the Administrative Committee of the Presbyterian Church in America.
Mr. Williams graduated with honors from Auburn University with a BS in Finance and has completed management development programs at the Colgate Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia and at the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.
